BYES: A single half-point bye is available. Byes must be requested 30 minutes prior to the start of round 2. Byes for rounds 4 & 5 may not be cancelled after the start of round 2. Players entering after the start of round 1 will receive a round 1 half-point bye.


FREE ENTRANCE FEE with Proof of Eligibility. US Chess membership required for ALL.


Please be prepared to bring sets, boards and clocks that can accommodate the time controls. This situation may change depending upon fundraising. Updates will be provided on our website and via emails from the Organizer.


EARLY CHECK IN is encouraged and can be accomplished on FRIDAY EVENING starting at 5:00 PM in the the FALLEN TIMBERS ROOM on the fifth floor.

All rooms are suites.   Each has 2 queen-size beds and one pull-out cot that sleeps two.   Maximum occupancy is six (6) guests.

American Legion Post 379 is a proud co-host of the 61st Annual US Armed Forces Open Chess Championship

American Legion Post 379 in Bedford, Texas is a patriotic veterans organization devoted to mutual helpfulness and committed to mentoring youth and sponsorship of wholesome programs in our communities, advocating patriotism and honor, promoting strong national security, and continued devotion to our fellow servicemembers and veterans.


Texas Armed Forces Chess (TXAFC) (US Chess Affiliate A6035657) is a Subordinate Element of American Legion Post 379. TXAFC is authorized to conduct nationally rated events. TXAFC is dedicated to organizing and sponsoring chess tournaments for chess playing veterans, and dedicated to assisting veterans playing in chess tournaments.


The success of this nonprofit event depends on donations, large and small, from generous individuals and gifts from sponsors. There definitely is a need. Some of our players may be experiencing hardship and we try our best to reduce their burden so they can focus on enjoying chess. Please help us help our Veterans.


Tax exempt donations can be made to US Chess, a 501(C)(3) organization. On the US Chess Donations Page, type "MILITARY CHESS" in the "OTHER" block. Your donation will be used to support this USAFOCCs and future USAFOCCs.
